What is remote online notarization?
Remote online notarization lets you meet with your notary through a live audio-video session instead of traveling to the same location. Your electronic document is notarized through a process that includes identity verification and a recorded session.
Joanna offers remote online notary services by appointment. Send the document title, number of signers, preferred time, and any instructions from the receiving organization. We’ll confirm whether the document and appointment can use a remote process.
How your online notary appointment works
- Discuss your document. Confirm that the recipient accepts remote notarization and share any platform or certificate requirements.
- Prepare for identity verification. Joanna will explain the identification and additional verification steps required for your remote session.
- Meet online and follow signing instructions. Use the agreed platform, have your electronic record ready, and wait for your notary’s instructions before signing.
What to have ready
Have your qualifying identification, electronic document, and all required participants ready. Use a device and internet connection that support the chosen platform’s camera, microphone, and session requirements. Ask about technology checks before your appointment.
Remote identity verification differs from an in-person ID check. Do not assume an ID accepted for an in-person visit will automatically satisfy the remote platform’s requirements.
Remote online or in-person e-notary?
For an in-person electronic notarization, the document is digital while the signer and notary meet in the same place. For RON, the meeting itself takes place online. If you need a notary to visit your home or office, choose a mobile appointment.
